In 1945 my grandparents and my father moved to Yellowknife, after being released from the Army. Approximately 5 years later my father got a call to go to Edmonton, in February by “Cat Train” over Great Slave Lake. He put a sign on his YK Radio & Record Store that said “Gone to Edmonton to Find a Wife, back in 2 Weeks”. I still carry on his “romantic” style! 

When I was about to enter the world my parents came to Edmonton, as there was no road to Yellowknife and the hospital, furthermore the Stanton Hospital had only 10 beds so it was easier to go to Edmonton; consequently, and happily the family could be present during my arrival into this wonderful country. A month later we all returned to Yellowknife.

My father’s business grew to become a Department Store, and I grew up selling records, tapes, Stereos and Televisions and DJ'ing in my off hours. Likewise, my grandfather was a real go -getter/entrepreneur; he built the Gold Range Hotel in 1957.

In my spare time I enjoyed camping, fishing, Army Cadets and snow mobile racing. Then in 1979 Marilyn and I were married in Edmonton, but we remained in Yellowknife and soon we had 2 sons who spent their early years in Yellowknife. In 1986 we sold the Store and we all moved out of Yellowknife. We arrived in Edmonton on the 26th of July 1986 and opened a children’s clothing and furniture store named “You’re My Baby” in The Marketplace at Callingwood. Shortly after, we were blessed with a 3rd child, a daughter.

A career change beckoned and in 1991 I entered the Real Estate Sales Industry.

My prior years in the retail industry with my father’s guidance, generosity and integrity and my love of people pointed the way! Many of my first clients and continuing clients have followed me throughout the years. Even now I still get stopped by previous buyers telling me of their purchase from our “baby store” still being in use many years later.

My family and I have always been associated with fairness and quality.

My father built his business on trust and value. His motto to his customers was kindness and understanding and he made sure we never judged a person by their appearance! 

I could tell many stories of him delivering a surprise package to a customer such as a Console TV, telling the customer “You said you liked it, so pay when you can and if you decide you don't like it or if it doesn't perform we will pick it up, no problem". I don't recall ever picking up any item!!
